Brethren Throwdown

Norcal CrossFit at the Brethren Throwdown!

Today I went down to Brethren CrossFit in Morgan Hill to cheer on our two NorCal CrossFit teams at the Brethren Throwdown!  Taz, Pat, Hillary, and Garret were on one team, and Cheryl, Sally, Jaime, and Sal on the other team.  Both teams did really, really great and were so inspirational to watch.
The Brethren Throwdown was an Rx-only, four-person team competition.  The theme of the competition was: "Workouts that are not STRENGTH related are Weak" and they definitely lived up to it!  There were three WODs and top four teams advanced onto WOD 4.  The winner of WOD 4 got to take home the grand prize of $1000 cash.

WOD 1: For time (15min time cap):
  • Ladies, one at a time: 25 Thrusters 105#
  • Guys, one at a time: 25 Thrusters 175#
  • 800m Buddy Carry
  • Ladies, one at a time: 25 Thrusters 105#
  • Guys, one at a time: 25 Thrusters 175#
WOD 2: For time (15min time cap):
  • Four-some mile run
  • Upon return, one at a time (in order of return), lunges with 45# plate overhead
  • In same order, max rope climbs (guys: legless, girls: any how)
WOD 3: 14min AMRAP for reps:
  • Guys: 7min AMRAP: Guy A gets 205# overhead, then Guy B completes max muscle-ups.  As long as 1 muscle-up is completed, rotate on dropping of bar
  • Girls: 7min AMRAP: Girl A gets 135# overhead, then Girl B completes max muscle-ups.  As long as 1 muscle-up is completed, rotate on dropping of bar
WOD 4, Final WOD: For time:
  • Guys: 3 rounds each, alternating: round trip Prowler Push (210# + prowler), 30 Double Unders
  • Girls: 3 rounds each, alternating: round trip Prowler Push (120# + prowler), 30 Double Unders

5. Results from the first three WODs.  We made it to the finals!

6. Taz on the prowler.  Speed bumps made the final WOD extra spicy.

7. Why I love CrossFit.

Congratulations to both our teams for doing so well!  It was a day filled with PRs, impressive performances, fun, and winnings!  The team of Hillary, Taz, Pat, and Garret advanced to the final WOD and took home third place!!!  I hope next year I'll be strong enough to participate in a competition like this!

  1. Of course I enjoyed this one. Second time I was in one of your blogs, and this time it's wasn't about getting beat by you on a wod ;-). This was tons of fun and the level of the athletes there was amazing. I was lucky to be included and excited to have gotten my first competition muscle-up and also watch Cheryl get hers (as I held 135# overhead).
