CrossFit PB / CrossFit North PB

CrossFit PB & CrossFit North PB

While in San Diego, I had to visit my really good college friend's gym: CrossFit North PB and the sister gym CrossFit PB in Pacific Beach.  I've actually been to CrossFit PB before, at the old location next door to the urgent care, when Greg just started and I had no clue what it was.  I didn't quite join CrossFit immediately after, but the seed was planted.  A lot has changed, as they're no longer in that location, they got a second location about a mile north, and their new space is quite the upgrade!

We joined the 8am fitness class at CrossFit PB on Saturday, with Greg.  This is what we did:
  • Warm Up: run, 2 rounds: 5 strict pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 air squats; 2x10 good morning; bootstraps, Sampson stretch
  • Strength:
    • Deadlift: 10-8-6, 4x5
    • Superset with strict gymnastic movement
  • Workout: Brenton: 5 rounds for time:
    • 100ft Bear Crawl
    • 100ft Broad Jump, evert 5 jumps do 3 Burpees
Since I feel like it would be biased to do a review, I'll just list a few things I noticed at CrossFit PB and CrossFit North PB:
CrossFit PB:
  • Coaches who are good at CrossFit and compete in CrossFit.  All of the coaches qualified for Regionals as an individual.  This year they teamed up, and came in 6th in the very competitive SoCal Region!
  • Main location.  Mid-sized space on one of the main streets.  Room upstairs possibly for yoga in the future.
  • Lots of weights in kilos and pounds
  • Variety of equipment: jerk blocks, kilos, fractional plates, airdyne, ropes, mats, etc.
  • A lot more class times than PB North location.  Check out their schedule.
  • Daily WOD blog, competition blog, trainers blog, travel WOD blog
  • Street parking
  • $20 drop in fee

CrossFit North PB:
  • Near the beach! and a popular coffee joint in PB.  Also, almost exactly a mile away from the main location.
  • The location reminded me of a little surf shop.  Though small, it has a large garage door, high ceilings, and a great vibe.  It's also next door to a coffee shop and within a few blocks from the beach.  They actually have surfboards stored up above.
  • Chill, easy-going vibe, very homey
  • Garage door, high ceilings, good use of space and well lit
  • Lifting platform!
  • Open gym and gymnastic classes available

Enjoyed my time here and it was great to see a good friend again.  Looking forward to coming back and hopefully to do a workout at the PB North location!
