The 2012 CrossFit Games Open

2012 CrossFit Games Open

This year I signed up to participate in the CrossFit Games Open!  It is the first step on the journey to the CrossFit Games.  You do not have to be a fire-breather to participate; anyone can sign up!  The open consisted of five workouts.  The top 60 men, 60 women, and 30 teams in each region are invited to the regional competition in May.  The top 1-3 athletes in each category (men, women, team) at each region are invited to participate in the 2012 CrossFit Games in July, where the fittest man, women, and team are crowned.

Last year I did not sign up for the open because I saw that the first WOD had double unders and at that time I could barely do singles, haha.   A 55# snatch was my PR snatch at the time.  This year, my goals were to be able to do all the workouts as prescribed (not drop out), be in the top 200 in Northern California, and make it onto the NorCal CrossFit team for regionals.

White Truffle and Steak

My truffle.

Last week, I was lucky enough to get a hold of the king of all fungi, a fresh White Truffle from Italy!  Truffles, the mushroom, are one of my favorite foods ever.  They are pretty hard to find, even at restaurants, so I was extra excited to get this one.  Truffles are pricey since they are difficult to cultivate, rare, and are absolutely delicious.

I had a few days to play with my fresh white truffle, before having to freeze it.  So I basically made it king and put it on everything.  The first thing I did was eat it raw.  Then I made eggs with only fresh shavings of the truffle (no added salt or pepper) and it was absolutely delicious.  I then decided to combine my two favorite foods, truffles and steak, into one dish for an extra delicious, orgasmic, mouth-watering meal.  yea yea

Coconut Energy Bars

Coconut Energy Bars

After eating primal energy bars and all its variations almost daily for the past seven months, I got kind of tired of them.  The problem with all these primal/paleo/clean energy bar or trail mix recipes online is that they have so much added sugar (though sometimes natural) and not enough protein.  I do not know if the sugar is to help the final product stick together or for flavoring purposes, but regardless, it is not what I am looking for.  A few weeks ago, I came across a coconut bar recipe from Elana's Pantry and modified it to fit my wants.  Also, as an added bonus, they are easier to make!

I made this recipe a bunch of times and I think I found the right modifications.  I brought a batch of these to the Sac Town Throwdown and they were a hit!  Though you should not eat these all day, the beauty of energy bars is that they are so convenient and hassle-free.  Hope you enjoy them!

CrossFit 808 and FGB

Jack & Danyelle!

Every time I go home, I always stop by to hit a WOD at Jack's FGB home gym and Elyse's CrossFit 808.  When I am in the Bay Area, I stalk their blog and such.  I love the crowd, atmosphere, coaching, and the programming.  So glad to get a visit in at both gyms last week!

Kekoa CrossFit

Kekoa CrossFit!

For a long time, I have been trying to visit Kekoa CrossFit in Schofield Barracks, Wahiawa, Oahu.   They are located on base at the last racquetball court in the Martinez Physical Fitness Center (Building 488).  Kekoa CrossFit is non-profit military affiliate so there is free and open membership!  They follow the main site programming.  They have one class at 9am Monday through Friday, but you can stay as long as you like!
